Every once in a while I like to review a product or profile a designer that is a little more unique and exclusive which also means harder to find. With that in mind, there is a fabulous English fragrance company by the name of Floris that I have admired for years. I even visited the Floris boutique in London at its famed Jermyn Street boutique. This is a company that has a long history (it’s been in business for over 275 years!) with many famous patrons both past and present.
I made a few purchases at the quintessentially English boutique, but was quite disappointed, months after my return to the States, when I had to throw my empty bottles away. You see, until recently Floris was scarcely available in the U.S. Although they are still only available in select boutiques across the county, they have also made their products available through their website. So now we’re talkin’.
There are several Floris fragrances I enjoy. For example, their fragrance called Santal, which was introduced in 2002, has citrus and herbal notes, black peppercorns, cardamom and sandalwood. I love it, especially after the dry down. If you are someone who likes a more citrus fragrance, then Cefiro, which was created for the Savoy Hotel, is a nice blend of Lime, Grapefruit, Mandarin, Lemon, Bergamot and Cedarwood among other things. Then there is my favorite classic men’s fragrance of all time, Vetiver. Vetiver is a fragrance that is not made by one fragrance manufacturer, but dozens. However, Floris’ version is considered one of the best, and I’m personally am a huge fan considering I have tried many others over the years.
Overall, Floris is a traditional English company with some excellent products. I realize most people associate fragrance manufacturing with France, but the French certainly don’t have a monopoly on the business. Branch out and see if anything intriques you. You can find the wide array of fragrances and other products at FlorisLondon.Daniel Billett,
